The Louchery Theological Series

This conference balances study with leisure and worship with fellowship amid the ancient live oaks and golden marshland of St. Simons Island, GA. Two eminent scholars will conduct lectures and hold discussion sessions on two topics of the highest relevance to our lives as 21st Century Christians: biomedical ethics and Islam. The conference activities take place at the historic Christ Church, Frederica.

The Speakers

The Reverend Dr. John Kerr is a priest of the Church of England and former Warden of the Society of Ordained Scientists. He is presently on the staff at Bruton Parish in Williamsburg, VA and serves as Episcopal Chaplain to the College of William and Mary. The Rev’d. Dr. Kerr has taught at Oxford and Winchester College in his native land and is widely known throughout the UK and America for his knowledge of the relationship of science, technology and ethics.

The Reverend Canon Christopher Chase is rector of Good Samaritan, San Diego and former chaplain to the University of Tennessee. Canon Chase is a recognized expert on Islam.

The Lodging

Participants will be housed at Epworth By the Sea on St. Simons Island on the Frederica River overlooking the marshes of Glynn. Your conference fee includes meals taken at Epworth. You may view the lodging at www.epworthbythesea.org/ . These comfortable accommodations are just minutes from Christ Church, Frederica, the site of the conference. A shuttle bus will be available.

The Leisure Activities

During your free time you may wish to play tennis or golf, sightsee on St. Simons or nearby Jekyll Island, or relax in your room. Please indicate your preferences on the registration form.

Fees and Information

A fee of $535 includes the lecture series, hotel room and all meals. If you are only attending the lecture series, we ask a donation of $25. The fee for Christ Church members is waived, but you are asked to fill out a registration form. Deadline for registration is December 1, 2008. For more information, call The Rev’d. Directions to Epworth By The Sea

Epworth By The Sea is located on St. Simons Island, Georgia, approximately one hour south of Savannah, Georgia, and one hour north of Jacksonville, Florida.

From the North (Savannah): Take I-95 south to Exit 38 (Golden Isles Parkway or "Spur 25"); turn left (east) onto the Parkway and continue to the end where it merges with Route 17 south. Proceed south on Rte 17 to the Torras Causeway/St. Simons Island (3rd traffic light). Turn left onto the Causeway. Continue with "On St. Simons" below.

From the South (Jacksonville): Take I-95 north to Exit 29 (Route 17/82); turn right towards Jekyll Island/Brunswick/St. Simons Island; continue over the Sidney Lanier Memorial Bridge into Brunswick; go past Spanky's Restaurant (on the right) then through the first traffic light (Gloucester Street); enter merge lane on right to Torras Causeway to St. Simons Island (just before Welcome Center). Continue with "On St. Simons" below.

On St. Simons: As you approach the Island stay in the left lane; once on the Island, turn left at the first traffic light (Sea Island Road); go about 200’ then turn left at first street marked Hamilton Road and then right onto Arthur J. Moore Drive. Office is on left located past Epworth Gate Entrance.
